CDA Community,

We will use this platform to house communications since March 10, 2020, when the Covid-19 / coronavirus health crisis started to affect our day-to-day operations. Make sure to check the district’s website for more up-to-date information. If you are not receiving their communications by phone or email, please email me so that we can check your contact information in our student data system.

Stay well and together we will get through this crisis. Thanks.

Dear CDA Families,

Are you ready for a long weekend? I know these have been 3 weeks where we have had to exercise an abundance of patience and problem solving acumen. We are getting there, I promise you. I am so proud of our students and teachers for their resilience, creativity, and flexibility in making these challenging times ones in which we can grow. I am also incredibly grateful for your support. I will be sending out a larger update on Monday as we will not be having an assembly due to the holiday, but I wanted to share a few things.

  1. Our first monthly Coffee and Tea with Principal (invite emailed) was postponed to Wednesday, September 9, at 11:00 AM. Thanks for understanding my need to reschedule it. These meetings will be held virtually for now on the first Wednesday of every month at 11:00 AM.
  2. Our CDA Wheel and Waves have been a huge success. We look forward to seeing our 4th and 5th graders this week, dates and times below. Our Booster Club board will be on hand selling CDA merchandise. We can’t wait to see as many students and their families as possible. I am starting to think of other ways we can connect in person.
  3. As a HUGE reminder, Mary Beth McCarthy and Renee Dewire Domino have set up a system for students to check out books from our library. This week (9/8/20 – 9/10/20), Tuesday through Thursday (3:00 – 4:30 PM), students in various grade groups can pick up to 4 books that they reserve. Please see linked document for directions, schedules, and information. Questions can be emailed to Ms. McCarthy. Please make sure to return any books that were checked out last school year. There is a drop box right inside our main office door. Please ring the bell, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM. Thanks.
  4. I realized that I have not shared our handbook yet, as the launch of our remote start to the year really had me pulled in all kinds of directions. I will start to work on that. One of our policies, in the meantime, is that if there is a concern with the classroom and/or its teacher, we ask that you schedule a meeting with the teacher first during his/her office hours. Our teachers are professionals and have great skill in addressing questions and concerns. If after that meeting you feel your concern was not adequately addressed, you can reach out to me. Teachers know that if they feel my presence would be supportive in a meeting, they can coordinate that with me, but I rely on them to be the first responders. Thanks.

Thanks again for all that you do to support your child(ren)! Have a great long weekend and stay safe!
