CDA Community,

We will use this platform to house communications since March 10, 2020, when the Covid-19 / coronavirus health crisis started to affect our day-to-day operations. Make sure to check the district’s website for more up-to-date information. If you are not receiving their communications by phone or email, please email me so that we can check your contact information in our student data system.

Stay well and together we will get through this crisis. Thanks.

Dear CDA Families,

I want to thank everyone for reaching out to me to let us know that they have or have not heard from me. I think our email systems have been fixed, but again if there is an issue with communication, please let me know. I will be emailing again on Sunday, and I know I promised to be judicious with communication, but I have news that is time sensitive.

The trainings we have planned for you, linked again below, are to orient you with our Parent Portal and how to link to Schoology. If you feel confident in these processes, which are supported by guides in a chart I created, there is no need to attend. If you have more than one child, you need only attend one time. There is also a make-up training next week, and I have linked a flyer that has trainings that are being offered by our local district. Those may be better as they are being led by experts, and while I like to think of myself as an expert, I am humble enough to admit that there are many who know more than I. Feel free to attend any of the offerings. We will have other opportunities to connect. Also, I linked an additional handout in the chart that you may find helpful. Once you register on the portal, you can link to Schoology, but you will not see your child’s course until next week. Our teachers will be orienting you and your child(ren) on how to use Schoology. This video is very helpful as an introduction for parents.

We will be setting up device distribution schedules for next week and on Monday, August 17th. Please make sure to complete the Google form. It is also imperative that you return your devices that were checked out last year so that we can check out devices from your new classrooms, except if you are moving with Ms. Jenkins from grade 2 to 3. We want to make sure that we have track of all of our devices. We have been reaching out to families if you still have one checked out. Also, please return all checked out library books. We are exploring ways that you might use our library in a remote way. More on that later.

Finally, we have had some shifts in our enrollment, mostly due to the COVID pandemic. Many of our international families are not returning until the situation in the states reaches more manageable levels. That being said, we are very impressed with our enrollment in kindergarten and are so excited to welcome so many new families. We have had to make changes to class rosters in grades 3-5, as we collapsed our grades 3/4 combination class with Ms. Welch and created a grades 4/5 combination class, with Mrs. Payne as the teacher. Please know that we were very thoughtful, as always , in placements, and they have been finalized. As soon as Leah Masterson and I make the changes in our systems, we will email out class lists, and then you should expect to hear from your teachers next week. Because agreements have been reached on schedules between the district and the teachers’ union, you should expect a sense of what to expect for your children as well.

Thanks as always for your understanding and patience. We are looking forward to really phenomenal year.
