CDA Community,

We will use this platform to house communications since March 10, 2020, when the Covid-19 / coronavirus health crisis started to affect our day-to-day operations. Make sure to check the district’s website for more up-to-date information. If you are not receiving their communications by phone or email, please email me so that we can check your contact information in our student data system.

Stay well and together we will get through this crisis. Thanks.

Dear CDA Families,

Thank you so much to all of the families who were able to join us for the orientations this past week. (If you were unable to sign in, and want to now, it is linked here.) As I mentioned in my previous email, we just wanted to make sure that everyone had connected to the Parent Portal and also to Schoology, so that once their children’s courses are on the platform, everyone is able to access them. Teachers gained access to their courses yesterday, so parents should be able to see something on the platform. Your teachers, if they have not already, will be reaching out to you to set up a time to get you oriented to the platform and help you and your child navigate our new learning management system (LMS). As I mentioned in the training, our goal in the first few weeks of school is to support our students on working independently throughout the school day so that you are able to do what needs to get done in your homes and work lives. Again, we all wish that we could be back on campus, but we are hopeful about the ways in which our students can engage with their teachers remotely. There will be a more robust schedule, examples of which I shared at the meetings, and that our teachers are working on and will share with you at their orientations. Unfortunately, the agreement was just reached between the teachers’ union and the district, so I understand that we are working on a tight timeline, so we appreciate your patience.

I also wanted to let you know that our first two days of school, August 18th and 19th, will be lighter days for our students, with opportunities in the afternoon to connect with their teachers and myself. One of the stipulations in the agreement was that teachers would have time to prepare for their remote classrooms and the tools therein, and while many of our teachers have been in trainings these past couple of weeks, they are in theory still on their summer vacation. We have a staff, though, who goes above and beyond, so I know that the ways in which your students will be engaging with the learning will be a cut above the rest. I encourage you to reach out to me and your child’s teacher once he or she connects with you for support or with questions. We want to make this transition as easy as possible.

There’s information on our Back to School page, including the new Family and Student Handbook, and we will be sharing materials that you will need to support the learning at home, some of which will be distributed by our teachers. Below is the device distribution schedule for all grades. In some cases, teachers will be joining me to also pass out materials, so they will let you know what to expect. If that can’t occur, and if needed, they will set up a separate time to pass out materials. Please wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines, and we will have markers for folks to queue up as we check out devices. We recommend you bring a bag in which to carry the device. Kindergarteners will be receiving iPads, and students in grades 1-5 will receive Chromebooks. If you’re able to help out during any of the windows, just email me directly. We also need support tomorrow and Tuesday to get everything ready to check out on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Monday (8/17). You can also let me know if you’re available then as well. If your assigned time does not work for you, just email me, and we’ll do our best to work something out.

Thanks so much for your continued support, and we hope everyone has a great last full week of summer vacation. Take care.

The schedules below are organized by the student’s’ last name initial. For instance, if your child’s last name is Alvarez and you are in Ms. Welch’s class, you would come from 10:30 – 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 12th. Thanks.
