CDA Community,

We will use this platform to house communications since March 10, 2020, when the Covid-19 / coronavirus health crisis started to affect our day-to-day operations. Make sure to check the district’s website for more up-to-date information. If you are not receiving their communications by phone or email, please email me so that we can check your contact information in our student data system.

Stay well and together we will get through this crisis. Thanks.

Dear CDA Families,

I hope this finds you well during these uncertain times. I know that for many of us, this is not the start to the school year we had hoped to see, but based on past experience, I know that as a community, we will make the most of it for our students. Please know that we will work tirelessly to make sure everyone’s needs are met as much as we are able. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us should you have a question or need support with remote learning and your child’s educational and social emotional needs.

By now, you should have received an email welcoming you back to school and announcing your child’s class assignment. If you know of anyone who has not received theirs, please ask them to check their junk/spam/clutter folders. If that does not surface the email, they can reach out to me. Leah Masterson, Booster Club co-president, Quinn and Jennifer, parent volunteers, Kaz Yoshida, parent alumnus, and I have been working diligently to connect everyone in our system so that you receive emails from me and soon from your child’s teacher and our Booster Club. Room parents will also use this system to communicate with families. Now more than ever, it is imperative that we stay up to date with emails. We will do our best to email conservatively, honoring your schedules and other demands. I will set as a goal to reach out on Sundays to get us ready for the school week, once it begins on August 18th, and our website’s calendar will have events and ways to stay connected. All of my communication will also be housed here, in case you feel like you have missed something.

Please take time to read completely the email that was sent. There is a Google form, to which we ask that you respond, and registrations on the Parent Portal and Schoology that will ensure you and your child are ready for the start of the year. If you need your child’s credentials, please email me. We will also have them available at the trainings, referenced below. Links were emailed. For those who cannot make the trainings this week, I have scheduled a make-up training on Wednesday August 12th at 2:00 PM. The chart I linked in the mail has lots of useful resources, and there are two new links, one of which I think will be very helpful for setting up accounts.

Once we analyze the data from the Google form, we will set up device checkout schedules for the week of August 10th and on August 17th. Our teachers in some cases are setting up materials checkouts as well, so feel free to stop by with your child at your assigned window, wearing a mask, and we can say hello in a socially distant manner and ensure that we get some “masked” face time with you as a family. I have been updating our Back to School page and will do the same with our School Closure Remote Learning site, so you can always reference those should you need an update on something. There is an excellent training scheduled this week through Teachers College that may be helpful should you need ideas around setting up learning spaces at home. I will do my best to share these kinds of opportunities in my updates and on our remote learning site.

Again, if there have been any changes to your enrollment, please let us know as soon as possible. Our enrollment looks strong, which excites us, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on campus once it is deemed safe. If you know of a neighbor who needs support with enrollment, have them email me or direct them to our enrollment site.

Finally, we will need some support with deploying new devices, so if you have time in the next two weeks, please email me. We are also looking for a parent volunteer or volunteers to support our website, as Kaz’s child has culminated. If you have expertise in this area, email me as well.

Take care, and thanks for all that you’re doing to ensure success for your child. We appreciate you.
