November 28, 2021

Greetings CDA Family,

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break!  There are only three weeks left of school before the winter break.  We are in week 15 and here are some reminders to keep us safe and secure in a healthy learning environment.

Change of Beyond the Bell Gate and pick up times

We continue to have challenges with pedestrians entering our staff lots.  This has proven to be unsafe to both students, staff, and families.

To minimize pedestrians entering the lots, all gates will be closed, per LAUSD policy.  Please remember that Beyond the Bell students exit on the Garfield side of the school.  Starting Monday, November 29th, Beyond the Bell is partnering with the Boys and Girls Club to streamline our student pick up in a more organized way.  Please adhere to the following expectations:

  • Only two gates will be used by the after school programs.  The YMCA gate will be used by both YMCA and STAR while the Garfield Gate will be used by both Beyond the Bell and the Boys and Girls Club – see map here.
  • Beyond the Bell and the Boys and Girls Club have agreed to the following pick up times at the Garfield Gate:  3:30pm, 4pm, 4:30pm, and 6pm
  • If caretakers wish to pick up students at different times than 3:30pm, 4pm, 4:30pm, and 6pm, please make arrangements with the program directors:  Mr. Hampton, BTB, can be contacted at [email protected] and Ms. Alvarado, BGCV, at [email protected]

Traffic Safety

Please continue to be mindful during drop off and pick up on Garfield and Coeur d’Alene Avenue.  Please park your cars appropriately and use the pedestrian crosswalks – see map here.  These practices will improve pedestrian safety in our streets.

Positive Behavior Expectations

Please reinforce our School Wide Positive Behavior Expectations by reviewing these slides here with your child on a regular basis including

  • keeping cell phones “off” and stored in backpacks where it is not visible during normal school hours, or school activities.
  • closed toed shoes are required to protect feet during school activities.
