August 23, 2021

Greetings CDA Family,

Thank you for the warm welcome and support that I received from you and the Venice community. I feel blessed to have been selected to serve you and your children during this time.

I also appreciate your patience as I learn to navigate new procedures and protocols during this unprecedented pandemic environment. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such an active and involved school community.

Our on-campus entry continues to improve each day as we refine and streamline our processes. There have been some very valid concerns brought up regarding this process, and we are working to address your concerns while keeping our school community healthy.

Communication

  • In order to streamline our communication, I am limiting my messages to families to once a week. Please expect a blackboard connection email from the principal every Sunday at 5:30pm. The same email will be posted at cdavenice.org

  • Teachers are also asked to send one email communication per week. Please check with your child’s teacher for the scheduled message.

Covid Tests and the Daily Pass

  • Free COVID testing in the school auditorium continues Monday, August 23rd from 7:30am to 3:30pm. Classes will be tested according to the schedule here.

  • A Daily Pass must be generated prior to entering the school. It is recommended that you generate it before coming to school to help expedite the entry process.

  • In addition to the Mobile Testing Team at our site on Mondays, Free COVID testing is also available at various schools around our area. Please click here for the schedule.

Entry and Dismissal Procedure:

  • School Parking Lots are for Staff Only and will be locked at 7:55am. Per LAUSD policy, all gates must be locked in the morning and remain locked until the end of the day.
  • Appropriate Grade-level gates open at approximately 8am (TK/K students will enter through the TK/K gate; Grades 1 and 4 will enter through the Kickball gate; Grades 2 and 5 will enter through the Garfield gate; and Grade 3 will enter through the Main gate. Click here for the Gate Map.)

  • Students in grades 1-5 who are allowed to enter the school will sit at their appropriate lunch tables and will be directed to go to their classrooms at the 8:10am bell.

  • School starts at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 2:38 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

  • On Tuesdays, school will start at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 1:38 p.m.

  • TK and Kinder classes will stagger entry starting Monday, August 23rd according to the schedule below:

    • 8:00am entry for Ms. Fielding’s TK Class, Mr. Victorin’s K class, and Ms. Lira’s K class.

    • 8:10am entry for Ms. Mead and Ms. Mackavoy

  • Students will use the assigned grade level gate at dismissal. Click here for the Gate Map.

Meals:

  • Students will continue to receive their meals via the cafeteria, or they may bring their lunch from home. Students will eat their lunch at their appropriate tables near the cafeteria, following physical distancing protocols.

  • Any student who forgets to bring their lunch will be able to eat in the cafeteria for free.

  • Please send your child with a reusable water bottle as CDA has purified water dispensers for them to refill so they stay hydrated.

Recess and Lunch Areas

We are refining our recess and lunch routines and procedures and we need your help:

  • Please speak to your child about staying with their class in their assigned eating tables and play areas during recess and lunchtime to ensure safety and minimize contact whenever possible.

  • Please remind your child after eating, students must clean up and wait at their lunch tables until directed to line up by their teachers.

Comprehensive Assessments begins – click here for TK-5 Schedule

  • Assessment is an integral component of all effective instructional programs. Data analysis and the use of data to plan instruction is a critical part of the continuous cycle of improvement.
