August 15, 2021

Greetings CDA Family,

We are excited to welcome your child onto campus tomorrow, August 16th for the 2021-2022 school year. We know last year was challenging, and we appreciate your continued support for our school community.

Please carefully review this message, which contains important information about what to expect for the start of the school year. We will maintain the highest standards of COVID safety practices and protocols, including health screening, face masks, social distancing whenever possible, proper hand hygiene, and cleaning. Hand-washing areas and hand sanitizers are available on campus and their use will be encouraged and incorporated into school routines.

All students will need a valid COVID test two weeks prior to the start of school and will need to continue to take a COVID test every week or periodically thereafter. Free COVID testing will be available in the school auditorium on Monday, August 16th from 7:30am to 3:30pm. Free COVID testing is also offered for students and their families at various school sites around the district. To schedule an appointment for your child, please use the Daily Pass or call (213) 443-1300. Please use your Parent Portal account to sign in. If you do not have a Parent Portal account, you can register here.

Prior to entering the campus:

  • School Parking Lots are for Staff Only and will be locked at 7:55am. Per LAUSD policy, all gates must be locked in the morning and remain locked until the end of the day.
  • All students are required to wear a face mask over their nose and mouth. Ensure your child has a protective face mask they can comfortably wear while on campus. If the face mask is reusable, please wash it daily. Also, make sure your child brings an extra face mask as a back-up. Masks will be provided for students who do not have one.

  • Make sure your child is feeling well. When your child arrives on campus, they will be asked to respond to the Daily Health Check questions. Before coming on campus, the Daily Health Check questions can also be answered using the Daily Pass, which generates a unique QR code that will allow your child to come onto campus. You will need a Parent Portal account to access the Daily Pass. If you have not yet done so, please register for a Parent Portal account, which will also help you stay connected to your child’s academic progress and attendance. Plan to arrive early during the first week of school to avoid long lines.

Daily Schedules:

  • School starts at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 2:38 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. On Tuesdays, school will start at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 1:38 p.m.

  • We encourage all families to arrive at least 15 minutes before school starts so that school staff may scan Daily Passes in advance. This will speed up the process when the gates are opened and students can enter the campus.

Drop-off and dismissal:

  • TK/K students will enter through the TK/K gate; Grades 1 and 4 will enter through the Kickball gate; Grades 2 and 5 will enter through the Garfield gate; and Grade 3 will enter through the Main gate. Click here for the Gate Map.

  • At the gate, you will present your child’s Daily Pass to the school staff. All students will need a valid COVID test two weeks prior to the start of school and will need to continue to take a COVID test every week or periodically thereafter. Students without a valid COVID test will be directed to the auditorium to complete the test and a negative test result must be presented prior to entering the campus. Plan to arrive early during the first week of school to avoid long lines.

  • Parents may accompany their child to the gate entrance. Supervision staff will be there to direct students or help escort the students to their line-up location.

  • Students who are allowed to enter the school will line up inside the gates and will be directed to go to their classrooms at the 8:10am bell.

Dismissal Procedure:

  • Students will use the assigned grade level gate at dismissal. Click here for the Gate Map.

  • If your child will be participating in one of the after school programs, they will be directed to their program location. Children in grades TK/K and 1st grades will be escorted by an adult to their program location.
