CDA Community,

We will use this platform to house communications since March 10, 2020, when the Covid-19 / coronavirus health crisis started to affect our day-to-day operations. Make sure to check the district’s website for more up-to-date information. If you are not receiving their communications by phone or email, please email me so that we can check your contact information in our student data system.

Stay well and together we will get through this crisis. Thanks.

Dear CDA Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying their extra day this weekend. We are excited to be moving into our 7th week of school. Thanks for your continued engagement. Below are our updates for this week.

  1. Monday morning assembly will resume on Monday, October 5th, 09:00 AM. I will share the invite via students’ Schoology course pages. Next week I would like to highlight some of our 2nd grade students, so if your child would be willing to share a story, please email me directly, and I will do my best to highlight a few perspectives. I look forward to connecting with folks virtually. Remember, one sign in per family.
  2. Local District West is hosting a virtual town hall, October 1st at 5:00 PM, flyer linked. Erick Hansen, Venice Community of Schools Administrator will be highlighting some of our schools, one of them being ours. I will be sharing what makes our school special. There is webinar information on the flyer, and you can register here. Thanks.
  3. Thanks to everyone who was able to make it out or order take-out for our first restaurant fundraiser at Nueva. It was great to see so many families. Our second restaurant fundraiser will be at Sharky’s in Marina del Rey the week of October 12th. See linked flyer for details. We will be competing with two other schools to raise the most money, and the school that generates the most sales will receive an extra $500. I will be making their guacamole on Thursday, October 15th, at noon.
  4. We will continue with our second round of Wheel and Wave’s, this week welcoming our first and second grade classes on September 29th and October 1st respectively. This is a wonderful way to say to hello to me, your principal, and our students’ classmates in a socially distant manner. Please wheel or walk by from 3:15 – 4:15 PM on the dates below. Thanks!
  5. Please make sure that your child is accessing all of their Zoom invites on their Schoology pages. The district is monitoring synchronous engagement, and the only way that it is captured is if students go through Schoology. If you are having trouble, please email your teachers or me. Thanks.
  6. Don’t forget to put a hold on up to 6 library books. (Directions here.) The next pick up will be this week, September 29th (Grades TK-1), September 30th (Grades 2&3), and October 1 (Grades 4&5). Books that were checked out the week of September 7th were due this past Friday, September 25th. There is drop off box in our main office, 08:30 AM – 03:30 PM. Thanks.
  7. Tomorrow is the last day to take part in our virtual Scholastic Book Fair. Thanks to all of our families who took part in the event.
  8. Friday, 10:30 AM, will be our first Prospective Family Virtual Tour. Please let families know who are thinking of our school as an option for their children for next school year that the Zoom meeting information is on the linked calendar event. Each month, I will be sharing what makes our school so unique and how we work as a team to educate our students.
  9. Finally, we will continue with our Storytime with Principal Jenkins on Tuesdays (TK-2) and Thursdays (Grades 3-5) at 1:45 PM. Students can access the meeting invites on their Schoology pages. If they are unable to find those links, please email your teachers or me.

Have a great week everyone, and thanks as always for all that you do to make our school so special.
