Dear CDA Families,

As we move into our 6th week of our remote launch to the school year and our 3rd full 5-day week of instruction, we continue to be amazed at how meaningfully our students are engaging. Thanks to everyone for creating such powerful moments of learning in our virtual spaces.

  1. We have our Monday morning assembly today, meeting invitations linked on your child’s Schoology pages. (Monday, September 28th, is a holiday.) These meetings are in webinar format, so attendees will only be able to see me and any panelists who might be willing to share their experience with remote learning. This week I would like to highlight some of our 3rd grade students, so if your child would be willing to share a story, please email me directly, and I will do my best to highlight a few perspectives. I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at 09:00 AM. Remember, one sign in per family.
  2. This week we will have an emergency Booster Club meeting on Wednesday, September 23rd, at 7:00 PM, meeting invite emailed. Thanks to all of our families who were able to join us this past Wednesday. We had so much to cover, that we forgot to vote on one board member’s nomination and a library expense. The meeting should not last longer than 30 minutes.
  3. Thanks to our restaurant fundraising committee for planning and getting scheduled two restaurant fundraisers, the nearest one at a new restaurant, Nueva, on Washington Boulevard. Please join us today, September 21, from 5:00 – 9:00 PM and Nueva will donate 20% of your entire bill back to CDA. The West Patio will also be reserved for CDA.  (I will be there!) You can make your reservations online, making sure to note “CDA Fundraiser“. Curbside pickup is also available if ordered here at least 24 hours in advance. Finally, our second restaurant fundraiser will be at Sharky’s in Marina del Rey the week of October 12. More details to come!
  4. Back by popular demand, we will have a second round of Wheel and Wave’s, starting with transitional kindergarten and kindergarten this Tuesday, September 22nd at 3:15 PM. This is a wonderful way to say to hello to me, your principal, and our students’ classmates in a socially distant manner. Please wheel or walk by from 3:15 – 4:15 PM on the dates below. Thanks!
  5. I shared a number of virtual after school enrichment opportunities last week. Chad Scheppner’s Theater 31 is offering a 10-week virtual theater session on Mondays from 2:00 – 3:00 PM. The session will start on October 5, 2020.  Information is posted here. Information can also be found on the linked flyer.
  6. Please make sure that your child is accessing all of their Zoom invites on their Schoology pages. The district is monitoring synchronous engagement and the only way that it is captured is if students go through Schoology. If you are having trouble, please email your teachers or me. Thanks.
  7. Don’t forget to put a hold on up to 6 library books. (Directions here.) The next pick up will be the week of 9/28/20, 3:00 – 4:00 PM, September 29th (Grades TK-1), September 30th (Grades 2&3), and October 1 (Grades 4&5). Books that were checked out the week of September 7th are due this Friday, September 25th. There is drop off box in our main office, 08:30 AM – 03:30 PM. Thanks.
  8. Finally, we will continue with our Storytime with Principal Jenkins on Tuesdays (TK-2) and Thursdays (Grades 3-5) at 1:45 PM. Students can access the meeting invites on their Schoology pages.
