Hello CDA Families!

Welcome to week 10!

Our mission is that each student will be academically and socially prepared for life. To achieve this goal, our vision is to prepare successful, compassionate, critical thinkers who are productive members of society. How can we ensure that each student is supported to achieve our mission as a school? How do we actively engage each student, so they are valued in our community?

Please remember to speak with your child about how important it is to be kind and keep our hands to ourselves. Please also remember to keep all toys and candy at home. Toys and candy are a distraction to the learning environment.

Our first school tour for prospective families is Thursday, October 20, at 8:30 AM. School Tours for prospective families will continue through May 2023, generally taking place the third week of each month. Dates are posted on the school website.

On Thursday, we will participate in The Great Shakeout at 10:20 AM. The school community will practice our emergency procedures in case of an earthquake. The Main Office will be closed for half an hour until about 10:50 while we practice our safety drill.

We are fortunate to live in a time when communication opportunities are plentiful. When communicating about school events through email, text, or other messaging apps, please keep communication focused on school. For instance, some topics may include specific volunteering needs initiated by the school or boosters, reminders about class events, booster updates, teacher updates, field trip reminders, etc. Communicating about children and voicing complaints about specific people is an invasion of privacy and disrupts the learning environment. The Parent Concern form is available in the Main Office.

The Safety Committee is developing the CDA See Something Say Something reporting form. The Google Form is where the school community can report disruptive or dangerous behaviors. Please look for information on this vital reporting form next weekend.

We are also working with the district to develop our school policy for visitors to campus. For general district policy, please see page 33, Visitors to School Campuses, in the LAUSD Parent Student Handbook for 2022-23.

Finally, double-check you are receiving email updates and newsletters from Friends of Coeur d’Alene (FOCDA). These emails are essential to keep up to date with community events at CDA. If you are not receiving emails from FOCDA, please opt-in to receive information from our boosters ASAP. You can also follow FOCDA on Instagram and Facebook.

-Principal Grasso
