Hello CDA Families!

Welcome back from Thanksgiving Break!

Our mission is that each student will be academically and socially prepared for life. To achieve this goal, our vision is to prepare successful, compassionate, critical thinkers who are productive members of society.

What actions are we taking to develop empathetic humans?

Here are the week’s announcements:

Book Fair

Looking for gifts for the holidays? The Book Fair is coming December 12-16 in the Library. Details are coming soon.

My Venice Poster Contest Art Showing

  • My Venice Poster Contest entrants will be showcased at the Venice Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 3. Will you be there?

Parent/Guardian Volunteer Teams needed

We have two committees that need parent support ASAP to get up and running. Please contact the Main Office to let us know you are interested in participating!

  • Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support Committee (SWPBIS) – Our teacher/parent committee is looking for two members. We will meet Tuesday, November 29 at 1:50. Our committee will meet every month to discuss and make improvements on positive behavior support at CDA. Please email danielle.vinas for meeting specifics. For more information on SWPBIS? Visit https://achieve.lausd.net/Page/11929

  • Drive and Drop Valet – We need a team of five parents who can take the lead on being trained for the safe implementation of the valet. (0 volunteers at this time)

  • The Potty Brigade – A team of five parents is also needed to tour each bathroom on campus to make recommendations for safety and improvement. The commitment is one day per month, and the day/time would be dependent on the team’s schedule. (1 volunteer at this time)

Parent Workshops

Three parent workshops were held in November to discuss bullying, social-emotional learning, and parent empowerment for students with social needs. Thanks to the families who participated in learning strategies to navigate student growth and development.

Drop-off Reminders

  • If you are dropping off students from the car, please use the Garfield Gate. It has been reported multiple times that some drivers are choosing to drive on the wrong side of the street or are blocking traffic on Coeur D’Alene Avenue, causing unsafe driving and pedestrian conditions. Keep all students and families safe.

  • At CDA, the first bell rings at 8:10 AM. Teachers pick up students at 8:10 AM. Instruction begins at 8:15. Parents, please make your way out of the gate at 8:10 – this will help us meet our daily instructional minutes and reduce transition times between drop-off and instruction.

  • The pedestrian gates close at 8:15 AM. After 8:15, students are tardy. Tardy students must enter through the Main Office and be brought in by a parent or guardian to sign in as tardy. Please drop off your child by 8:10 to avoid being tardy.

  • Park and drive on the correct side of the street.

  • Follow all street signs.

Attendance

Please be mindful to ensure your child is in school on time every day.

  • Please send an excuse note with your child that explains why your child was absent and for what days. Schools must keep excuse notes for seven years, and emails are difficult to keep track of.

  • All absent students receive an automatic phone call from LAUSD each day they are out.

  • Check out the LAUSD School Attendance Guide for Parents for more information.

Acceleration Days

Acceleration Days will take place on December 19-20, 2022, and April 3-4, 2023. Location information should be available by Tuesday, November 15, 2022. Please respond yes/no to the Superintendent’s email regarding your child’s participation. Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.

Information here: https://achieve.lausd.net/accelerationdays

Student safety is our number one priority. See something concerning? Report it with See Something Say Something reporting form. This form should also be used to report any school repairs noticed by any member of our school community (e.g., broken locks, graffiti, etc.).

  • Please keep in mind that this form is not monitored 24/7. If you or your child has a pressing need, please contact the Main Office.

  • Bullying or parent complaints should go directly to the Main Office.
