October 3, 2021

Greetings CDA Family,

It’s October already and we are in week 8.  There have been quite a few challenges but we are confident we will overcome whatever comes our way.  Here are a few notable highlights:

  1. Despite a few COVID cases, we have not experienced an outbreak at school.
  2. We are the first elementary school to have completed our Safe School Plan in our area and have partnered with the American Heart Association to enhance our health curriculum including a fun and engaging kick off assembly on November 1st.
  3. We are resolving the OEHS identified safety hazards including backpack hooks and lunch tables blocking hallways.
  4. We have hired and have secured funding for a few more aides to support our COVID safety protocols, our classrooms, and our most at-risk students.
  5. We are  expanding our outdoor spaces using shades and canopies.
  6. We have established our School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Councils.
  7. We have secured funding for leveled readers and counting collections as well as Teacher tutoring before school, after school, and Saturdays.
  8.  We have 99% parent portal registration, the highest it’s ever been at CDA.  Only 6 more to 100%
  9. We are continuing our Theater, Dance, PE, Gardening, and Library Programs.  Music and Grade 5 Ballroom Dance will resume shortly.
  10. We have completed our first round of Balance Literacy training for all Grade levels while a few of our teachers are leading the  UCLA Math Project/LA Unified CGI Partnership.

COVID Prevention

See flyer here for more information on stopping the spread of the virus.  Keeping 6 feet of distance from staff, students, and guests as much as possible will prevent close contact.  Free COVID testing in the school auditorium continues this Tuesday.  Parents, guests, and community members are encouraged to complete their testing after dismissal time (2pm to 3pm) and not during the instructional day.

Traffic Safety and Staff Parking Lot reminders:

Parents and caregivers must observe traffic and parking rules at all times especially during drop off and pick up times.  This includes appropriately parking cars at the designated street parking spots facing  the correct direction, making u-turns away from the school zone, using the marked crosswalks, and avoiding the school staff parking lots.
