Nancy, from the Heal the Bay, came to speak on Monday November 30th, to the children about what they could do to help keep the earth clean. She also reminded them of the water cycle and photosynthesis. She explained how pollution on the city streets can end up in the ocean. She explained how the sewage from inside our home gets cleaned at least twice, and then is dumped into the ocean, whereas the storm drains do not get cleaned, and the water goes straight into the ocean with all of the trash and chemicals. She explained the different types of harm that can come to the animals from the pollution, such as entrapment or ingestion. She also showed the kids how balloons, when released into the atmosphere, pop and look just like the food that many marine animals eat. She helped the kids see that little actions can make a big difference. Changing what you use to drink or eat with, so as to not create more trash with one time use items. That you are never to young to help, or to encourage others to pick up their trash. The children really enjoyed the assembly, and we were amazed at how much they already new.
